Dr. Rhee had the idea to start making these angels during the first surge of COVID-19, back in March of 2020. She would bring them to the COVID units while she was volunteering at The Hospital, giving the staff a symbol of comfort and hope.
José Gonzalez, a dedicated member of the Hospital staff for many years, was among the first recipients of a COVID angel.
As spring turned into summer and the number of COVID patients being cared for in the hospital, began to decrease, José was instrumental in ensuring that these angels were blessed and ready to give to patients and staff as a sign of comfort and peace.
As time has passed, more and more staff are wearing these angelic symbols on their ID Badges.
They continue to be an inspiration to the staff and patients, who are also frequently recipients.
The COVID angels transcend color, creed, ethnicity and gender. They are little beacons of hope, compassion and peace to those who receive them, during a difficult time in our world.
The COVID angel project is a wonderful gift to all who partake.
Your contribution will enable us to support and continue making angels. We are very grateful for your generosity.
